Concrete Finisher

Job Description

Mountains Edge Construction has been doing landscaping, concrete, and snow removal in Calgary and area for over 15 years. Owners Randy and Dave have established a strong reputation in the community and have managed to retain many long-term employees. Currently we are looking to add concrete finishers to join our team for the spring, summer, and fall. 

Concrete labourers are involved in the final stages of the concrete installation process which includes the pouring and finishing of concrete on our job sites. This position requires experience with smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, driveways walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Our ideal candidate would have the ability to align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters. Please keep in mind that this position could also involve some landscape construction tasks. Job Tasks

• Clean tools after pouring, keep tools in good condition.

• Mix substances or compounds needed for work activities.

• Place concrete into or on designated areas with either a pump or wheelbarrow.

• Signal equipment operators to indicate proper equipment positioning and move chute to direct concrete.

• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power screed, and float.

• Produce rough concrete surface, using broom or decorative surfaces using stamps.

• Create mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.

• Apply sealants or other protective coatings.

• Open to learning and adopting new skills.

Work Activities

• Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material — Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

• Performing General Physical Activities — Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials.

• Handling and Moving Objects — Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

• Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates

• Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work — Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.

 

Requirements

• Experience in the concrete industry and familiarity with the operation of concrete installation equipment is considered a benefit but is not a requirement.

• Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean driver abstract.

• Transportation to and from our shop located in the South Foothills Industrial area off of Glenmore and Barlow.
