Concrete Prep Labourer/Carpenter

Job Description

Mountains Edge Construction has been doing landscaping, concrete, and snow removal in Calgary and area for over 15 years. Owners Randy and Dave have established a strong reputation in the community and have managed to retain many long-term employees. Currently we are looking to add a concrete prep labourer and carpenter helper to join our team for the spring, summer, and fall.

Concrete prep labourers are involved in the beginning stages of the concrete installation process which involves preparing the sites for the concrete to be poured. Prep includes excavation, tamping, building forms, installing rebar, and any other activity to prepare for concrete pouring and finishing. Our ideal candidate would have the ability to set forms for all flat work. The individual chosen for this position should be proficient with measurement systems and tools, as well as have a laser focus and meticulous approach to their work to make sure the job is done right the first time. This position could also involve some landscape construction tasks. Please read the following job description to determine if you are a good candidate for this position.


Job Tasks

  • Understand job site plans and be able to execute accordingly.

  • Clean surfaces in preparation for work activities.

  • Set the forms (all flat work).

  • Install rebar forms and brackets.

  • Do prep work for the creation of driveways, sidewalks, retaining walls, detached garages, and patios.

  • Signal equipment operators to indicate proper equipment positioning.


Work Activities

  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment — Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment and power tools.

  • Performing General Physical Activities — Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials.

  • Handling and Moving Objects — Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates.

 

Requirements

  • Basic carpentry skills are required.

  • Experience in concrete prep work is an asset.

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean driver abstract.

  • Transportation to and from our shop located in the South Foothills Industrial area off of Barlow Trail just past Glenmore Trail.​​Minimum of 2 years of experience in the concrete industry and is familiar with the operation of concrete preparation equipment.
