Skid Steer Operator/Landscaping Lead Hand

Job Description

 

Mountains Edge Construction has been doing landscaping, concrete, and snow removal in Calgary and area for over 15 years. Owners Randy and Dave have established a strong reputation in the community and have managed to retain many long-term employees. Currently, we are looking to add a Skid Steer Operator/Landscaping Lead Hand to help with landscaping and other construction work during the spring, summer, and fall. 


The Skid Steer Operator will work in close proximity to equipment and people and operate a skid steer to move materials in a safe manner. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform the listed roles and responsibilities satisfactorily.  The person hired for this role must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees. They also must maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment. The list below is representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of our ideal candidate.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operating skid steer and other company vehicles to perform various landscaping tasks

  • Perform daily fluid level checks on oil, water and fuel; Visual inspection for obvious leaks and damage to machine before operation of equipment as well as safety equipment checks.

  • Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order. Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired.

  • Spread top soil, gravel, load trucks, and plant trees.

  • Excavation and grading at job sites using skid steer.

  • Responsible and on-time.

  • Rested, alert, and physically prepared.

  • Knowledgeable about company and site rules.

  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Uses safety equipment, operates in a safe manner and has received adequate instruction in the safe use of the equipment.

  • Has a desire to learn.

  • Skilled and works to improve skills.

  • Keeps machine under complete control at all times.

  • Knows 2-3 steps ahead.

  • Capable of effective communication with crew members, supervisors, and other colleagues.

  • Ability to prioritize in order to meet tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrates attention to detail and the ability to follow directions/plans outlined for each job.

  • Willing to help crews with physical tasks if there is no skid steer work onsite.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with bobcat/skid steer vehicles and is familiar with the operation instruction for the equipment.

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean driver abstract.

  • Transportation to and from our shop located in the South Foothills Industrial area off of Barlow near Glenmore
